The state Congress government here is facing the wrath of the people due to their lack of assistance in the aftermath of the floods that happened in June 2013. Along with the anti-incumbency wave at the centre, it should most likely be a clean sweep for BJP. But one seat Nainital could pose the challenge, where sitting MP, KC Baba will be eyeing a hat-trick, but is facing a tough opponent in BJP's Bhagat Singh Koshyari, a former CM. Though KC Baba won by a huge margin in 2009, it is expected to be a closer fight this time. Other parties like BSP, SP, AAP are also expected to target some vote banks and split Congress votes. Koshyari has been the CM of the state once, and if his strong campaigning proves successful, it could very well be a clean sweep.
Briefs on the other constituencies -
The seats tally prediction is as follows
Briefs on the other constituencies -
- Almora - Pradeep Tamta won in 2009 and is relying on his clean image and the support of CM Harish Rawat to win again, but the anti-incumbency factor should be strong this time and BJP's Ajay Tamta who lost by a close margin in 2009 should make it
- Haridwar- Haridwar is a strategic and most watched constituency in the state as Renuka Rawat, the CM's wife is contesting against BJP's former CM Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. Though Harish Rawat won the LS seat in 2009 by a landslide margin, the anti-incumbency factor and the devastation caused due to floods is expected to go in the favor of Nishank.
- Garhwal - Congress's sitting MP from here, Satpal Maharaj has switched to BJP, giving them a major boost. BJP's candidate Major General B.C.Khanduru is expected to gain the votes of many ex-servicemen in this constituency
- Tehri Garhwal - Should be a very easy win here for Maharani Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah who had already beaten Saket Bahuguna in the 2009 elections by a comfortable margin. This year the Modi factor and anti-incumbency against Congress at both state and national level will make the task a lot simpler for Mala, who has great respect in this constituency
